Optical Fiber Systems in Long Range Radio Communication

Optical fiber systems are great importance in the long-range radio communication scenario. The optical fiber technology has greatly improved in the recent times. It is in fact one among the most recent technologies that is being use in the communication front. The superiority of the technology has been instrumental in the innovations in the filed of communication. The usage of the technology in telecommunication systems, data systems and cable television transmission has greatly contributed to the efficiency factor of these areas.

The scientific application and engineering of optical strands is the basic idea behind the systems. The data is transmitted in the form of light rays in the optical fiber equipments. Considering the speed of light, the speed of data transmission can be estimated. The high speed of data transmission has greatly contributed in quick and effective communication in various fields. The technology known as 'total internal reflection' is being used in this technology. The light signals are contained inside the core of the thread and this makes the system more efficient than the other systems. The data signals tend to diminish in other systems. This is the reason why it is used n long distance data transmission. The higher spend compared to the conventional techniques is also among the reasons for its usage in the long distance data transmission.

Structure of Optical Cables

Many different types of optical cables are used in the communication scenario now. A basic optical; cable has two layers. The center part of the strand is known as the core. The signals in the form of light rays travel through the core of the strand. The protective shield outside the core is known as cladding.

The cladding has to major functions. The main function is protecting the core from extreme interferences. Cladding also serves as the internal reflective boundary that enables total internal reflection. It is also the key factor as it enables the signals to travel towards the right direction towards destination.

Advantages of the System

Compared to the traditional data transmission techniques, the optical fiber technology offers many advantages. The considerable reduction in the signal loss is one among the most important advantage offered by the technology. Optical threads are also immune to the electromagnetic interference that is common with the traditional metal wire transmissions. There is also a considerable increase in the data transferred through the system. The great technology used in the components also ensures the quality of communication.

The technology also makes use of lower weight equipments and components reducing the transportation cost and handling cost. Enhanced security and higher performance are the two major aspects of this system. Lack of radiation is also among the factors that make the technology popular.

Optical strands will not produce sparks making it a safer technology when compared to the conventional techniques. Protective qualities of the cladding contribute greatly to the safety aspect. Cost effectiveness of the system also makes it a safe choice to make.

However, long distance radio communication has been greatly benefited with the introduction of this technology.

Fixed Communication Systems

We are now in a world where technology goes hand in hand in everything we do, we cannot deny the fact that we are in an evolving society where we are in a stage of exploration to make our world a better and easier place to live in. Technology basically gives us a lot of advantages to really connect on what we are up to and one of the most important and most commonly used to us is "Communication", whereas we basically exchange information from one another sometimes by the way of Fixed Communication Systems I think more surprisingly is that the evolution of this systems that allows us to communicate even in the hardest possibilities. With the help of fixed systems, we are able to have better communication through any means of communications there is.

One of the most common means of technology in our world is the telephone, and with it it's pretty much a basic point to have access on a telephone wherever you may be. In every phone server there is a fixed communications in which basically becomes the root in order for a simple communication by the use of telephone or hand held phones to another. The fact that fixed communication systems play an important role to make the "conversation" happen, gives you a basic insight into how they work.

Allow us to explain in the simplest way that we can. Well, first off fixed communication systems are connected to a remote station, which acts as a server to cater the call, it is also wired or connected to a terminal in which performs the communication itself, so when a certain number or address is dialed in, it goes and basically connects to the station and on to the terminal, to make it happen. It is a basic structure that simply initiates the conversation and from there information is transferred.

Fixed Systems are now so broad that there are different types and uses on which it operates from, simple hand held phones that connect to computers and satellites. That is a diverse thing to really ponder into. Right now, the thought of having everything wireless is a common thing to almost everyone. The cell phones, the internet and almost everything is in the wireless society. Therefore, getting a fixed system is a totally new level as well, with the wireless internet technology called Wi-Fi most communication fixtures goes with a wireless response. Because right now everything is detailed using signals that performs the initial communication to really make the connection possible.

It is very much important for us to understand the wonders of how the fixed communication systems work because without a simple understanding in it, we wouldn't be informed on how the communication system really works. In certain aspects fixed systems really give us the idea of how we communicate using today's technology. The fact of the matter is, we shouldn't be less informed in simple things such as fixed communication systems because having the understanding to it can give us relative information that would really be a good help us in an informative manner.

The Basics of Satellite Radio Systems

Satellite radio systems are the consumer's access to space-based audio technology, offering uncensored, commercial-free programming that comes in crystal clear no matter where you are. But how do they actually work?

The most basic explanation is as follows: programming is transmitted to a communications space satellite, which beams a digital signal back to earth. The signal is encrypted, so it can only be picked up by special proprietary equipment. The signal can be broadcast across more than 22,000 miles and received by the end user with absolutely no degradation in clarity or sound quality.

But the basics are only a small part of what makes satellite radio systems work. Many innovations and the use of cutting-edge communications technology have brought digital radio a long way from where it began just over a decade ago.

Digital radio was actually operating in the early 1990s, with Washington-based Worldspace Corp. providing fixed-location satellite radio to Europe, Asia, and parts of Africa. However the technology didn't take off in the US until 1992, when the Federal Communications Commission established the Digital Audio Radio Service (DARS) which allocated certain segments of radio frequency for satellite broadcast.

Two companies bid for and won licences to broadcast in the allotted frequencies: American Mobile Radio, which later become XM Radio, paid $93 million for licensing, and Sirius Satellite Radio forerunner CD Radio paid $89 million. XM made its nationwide debut in 2001, and Sirius followed in 2002.

Though both companies offer more than 100 channels of commercial-free programming that's available anywhere in the US, they took different technological routes to achieve universal coverage.

XM's system relies on two powerful geostationary satellites positioned directly above the equator, which are programmed to move in synchronization with the movement of the earth. To overcome interference from physical obstacles such buildings and mountains, the XM service service relies on a network of repeaters, which are antennas that receive the radio signal from the satellites and retransmit it to the subscriber's receiver.

The Sirius system is based on a trio of satellites that travel in figure-8 shaped orbits. Because these orbiting satellites can rise much higher than geostationary satellites, interference from physical objects is minimized and a large network of repeaters is unnecessary. To keep the signal steady during the eight hours daily that the Sirius satellites' orbit takes them to the other side of the earth, the company leases capacity on a geostationary satellite which feeds the signal to subscribers.

Satellite radio service also depends on digital compression technology, a technique that uses sophisticated algorithms to compress as much material as possible on the available bandwidth.

Communication & Control Systems

Communication was used initially to interact with one another. Later it was used for data transfer, running planes, trains, guiding the rockets, etc. No one can deny the great service communication systems does for the military, naval and air forces. It looks like the whole world is connected and is functioning only because of communication and control systems.

It is hard to even imagine a life without the basic communication system every man uses today like the mobile, internet etc. Man has become so dependable on this communication media and it is now hard to pull him back to olden days when the only mode of communication was snail mails or trunk calls. Not to mention the messages passed on through doves. If we ponder on the history of communication we can see that even cave men used drawings to express himself. Communication forms existed at all times only now it is growing in size, medium and functionalities.

It is possible to watch over an enemy nation or keep the radar systems working 24.7 to watch the enemy movements. Today it looks like the whole country along with its army, navy and air force depends hugely on the communication and control systems performance. What would happen if for even a minute these systems stop working. Will it not cost the nation's security breach if any of these control systems were seized or hacked? Imagine the commotion in a train schedule or flight timing if its control system stopped suddenly. Don't you think we are becoming more and more dependant on these communication and control systems? It is in fact done enough damage by hopelessly making us all follow what the control room says or does. But then these systems are fool proof to some extent and thus very dependable and reliable.

Research and development in this field is a never ended episode. Updating the present system to suit the changing needs of the customer or the duties it is assigned is very imperative. Newer communication methods or tools to enhance the control systems performance and usability is also developed and has become a necessary evil. Developing, maintaining and updated these control systems is a huge process and people need proper training to handle them efficiently. Therefore humans should also update their knowledge of these systems for the fear of being branded as aliens. Right from car and home security control systems to larger systems used in banks and organization all control systems are developed with their focus on the particular need of the customer. Military control systems need a system wherein the data can be handled safely and the confidentiality of the messages are kept a secret. High level of security and compatibility is required to face the threats of deadly viruses and hackers.

Communication and control systems are costly or cheap according to the need. A control unit for your home security might be less when compared to business related communication systems. The control unit used by airports, ships, military vigilance etc are all huge control units whose capacity in manifold.
